History
Columbine Bowmen had its beginning in 1960. The club started out as an indoor Archery Club in the basement of a VFW building, and then moved for a short time to the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds, again moving, to the Daniels & Fisher Tower to shoot in the basement of the tower. The floor in this basement was dirt with boards laid on top of the dirt. Clarence and Irma Love had opened up an indoor range and had property in the Franktown area for an outdoor range. A beautiful place with camping and lots of hummingbirds, Columbine shot here for some time.
If the records are right, the club was able to secure a permit to lease land in the Pike National Forest in May of 1969. The seven people in the club weren’t sure they wanted to pay $35.00 for a yearly permit, but they moved forward. The range was named Columbine Trails in honor of one of the founders, Walt Trail.
During the winter months, the Club holds indoor Archery tournaments at ranges around the Denver Metro area, to name a few, Tangle Wood, Bear Creek and Archery Adventures. All of our tournaments are NFAA sanctioned.
During the spring and summer months, Columbine holds tournaments on the Columbine Trails Range. We put on NFAA Field and Hunter tournaments as well as 3D shoots.
The range has always been open to the public to enjoy the sport of Archery. Through out the years thousands of residents frequented the range and enjoyed the beautiful forest land. Open shooting is available 7 days a week for a nominal fee.
Columbine Bowmen is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of archery in all of its various forms. The purpose of our club is to educate, promote and enjoy the sport of Archery, with safety as our prime concern. We are members of the National Field Archery Association (NFAA), Colorado State Archery Association (CSAA) and Colorado Bowhunters Association (CBA). Located in Douglas County, Colorado, we host a variety of archery tournaments throughout the year, including State, Field and 3D Tournaments.
Belonging to Columbine Bowmen is the best move you can make toward increasing your enjoyment of the sport. The camaraderie and friendships you will develop with many other archers and their families is especially rewarding. Archery is truly a family-oriented sport, and the activities at Columbine Bowmen are formulated around maintaining and building those family relationships. The expression of ideas, the sharing of experiences, the mutual understanding of the goals, aspirations and passions for the sport all serve to enhance the pride we feel in our organization.
